Term One - Real-time 3D Essentials
Project type
Modelling and Animation
In Real-time 3D Essentials, I began with the fundamentals of 3D, learning how to set up models, scenes, rigs, and animation to establish a strong foundation for all other 3D skills.
I worked in an immersive online studio environment, exploring video game and real-time modelling workflows while learning the foundations of polygonal modelling and texturing. I then progressed into animation and rigging, followed by the principles of lighting and rendering. Throughout this learning process, I was exposed to referencing and prop construction, UV layout techniques, and the creation and application of textures.
My animation workflows covered core principles, enabling me to create ball bounces and walk cycles while developing an understanding of basic rigging concepts. I also explored different processes and tools for finalising custom shots through the application of various lighting and rendering effects.

Assignment One -
Understanding 3D Modelling

Explain the fundamental principles of modelling, texturing and rendering utilised within the 3D pipeline and analyse their technical and aesthetic impacts.
Adhere to industry specific processes and practices and communicate understanding of ideas and concepts using written, oral, digital and/or visual modes
Assignment Two -
Foundational Modelling

This project showcases the production of a fully textured 3D prop featuring a complex form that combines both organic and hard-surface elements. The work demonstrates strong UV layout practices, high-poly to low-poly normal map baking, and a considered texturing approach using smart materials and texture masking to achieve visual detail and material realism.

Assignment Three -
Understanding 3D Modelling

Explain the fundamental principles of modelling, texturing and rendering utilised within the 3D pipeline and analyse their technical and aesthetic impacts.
Adhere to industry specific processes and practices and communicate understanding of ideas and concepts using written, oral, digital and/or visual modes
